Wildlife viewing at Hutton-Loyd Tree Farm can be done throughout the year and is always rewarding. With miles of trails to explore and a diversity of habitats, many species can be found depending on the timing of your visit. Visitors in spring will enjoy the loud calling of frogs and toads, an abundance of migratory birds, gobbling Wild Turkey and spring wildflowers. Summer highlights include the birth of White-tailed Deer fawns in June, an abundance of nesting bird species including many warblers, the evening calls of Whip-poor-wills, July blackberries, and a beautiful assortment of butterflies. Fall color at Hutton-Loyd Tree Farm is outstanding in the mixed forests; it is also time for the White-tailed Deer rut, migratory birds on their way south, and many animals storing food for winter. Winter brings quiet to the open forests and fields. One may find a crimson male Cardinal on the snowy bow of a pine or hear the distant evening call of an Eastern Screech Owl. The forest in winter is a treat in itself.

Hutton-Loyd Tree Farm strives to make wildlife conservation compatible with the commercial activity on the farm. While this is not always possible, efforts are being made to reduce the impact that our farming has on the local environment. By protecting sensitive wildlife habitat, reducing field mowing to areas of production, planting fodder for wildlife, and providing nest boxes for birds, Hutton-Loyd Tree Farm hopes to preserve and improve the wildlife habitat on the farm. Hutton-Loyd Tree Farm is also committed to providing a place where people can enjoy and explore nature on their own.
